Emily Scott

Emily Scott PLA

In her role as Director at Unknown Studio, Emily brings curiosity, intuition, and a wealth of technical knowledge. Emily is passionate about storytelling and experience. Working contextually and conceptually, she strives to honor social and environmental narratives by creating spaces that tell past and ongoing stories of their people and ecosystems. Her design goal is to inspire a sense of orientation and belonging by highlighting the interconnectedness between social and ecological worlds. 

Emily is the Project Manager for Nancy A. Nasher and David J. Haemisegger Family Sculpture Garden at Duke University (NC), Vero Beach Museum of Art (FL), and the Kennett Greenway (PA). Emily also provides technical support for the detailing and constructability of projects across the office.

Emily holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from The University of Pennsylvania, School of Design, and a BA from Kenyon College in History of Religions with a Concentration in Women’s and Gender Studies. 

Prior to joining Unknown Studio, Emily helped to open and lead a Washington DC office of Gustafson Guthrie Nichol. At GGN, Emily managed design and oversaw construction of many now-built projects including CityCenterDC; Department of State Foreign Affairs Security Training Center (FASTC); United States New Embassy Compound, Ankara, Turkey; and United States New Consulate General, Nogales, Mexico. Emily guided GGN’s participation in The National Mall Tidal Basin Ideas Lab.

Outside of the studio, Emily is an avid equestrian who trains and competes in dressage.
