Vero Beach Museum of Art appoints Unknown Studio Landscape Architecture Alongside Allied Works Architecture for Museum Campus Expansion and Renovation
Unknown Studio has been selected to lead landscape design for the Vero Beach Museum of Art’s seven-acre waterfront campus expansion and renovation. The revitalization project is being led by Allied Works Architecture (AWA). The Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) serves as the principal visual arts museum on Florida’s Treasure Coast.
Unknown Studio will lend special expertise garnered from experience working in the cultural realm and in low-lying, sub-tropical and tropical Florida. The project brings an opportunity for a resilient, inclusive designed landscape for the arts. Unknown Studio looks forward to collaborating with the VBMA and AWA on this exciting commission.
Today, the VBMA, which opened with a modest footprint just under 30,000 square feet, spans 75,000 square feet and is home to a robust permanent collection of American art, bolstered by frequently rotating temporary exhibitions, a dedicated interactive space for children, and a diverse range of public programs including a lecture series, films, and more. The VBMA anchors the City’s Riverside Park and presents an exciting opportunity to further support the civic life of Vero Beach.
Design work kicks off with an intensive research and exploration phase. As noted in The VBMA’s announcement, “inspiration and influence for the eventual design will come from the landscape as the team employs a holistic resiliency strategy that extends well beyond the Museum’s facade.”
The VBMA renovation and expansion is slated for completion in 2026.
