Unknown Studio Contributes to
Unknown Studio’s Claire Agre is a contributor to Dr. Lolly Tai’s newest publication Letting Play Bloom: Designing Nature-Based Risky Play for Children. Our team was honored to contribute to Dr. Tai’s research alongside frequent collaborators Richter Spielgeräte GmbH, ape studio and internationally respected play expert Teri Hendy.
As senior designers for Slide Hill, members of the Unknown Studio senior team brought together beauty, safety, play value and a strong vision for landscape identity on Slide Hill. For Dr. Tai’s book, Agre contributed insight and context on the process, design, and implementation of Slide Hill.
Unknown Studio’s team specializes in the integration of inclusive design that provides play value in all of our landscape designs, notably at Houston Botanic Garden, Governors Island, The Land and Garden Preserve, Town Branch Park, North Meadow on Rose Kennedy Greenway, and Druid Lake.
In her latest volume on landscape design for children, Dr. Tai brings together case studies of five outstanding playscapes, including the beloved Slide Hill on New York City’s Governors Island. Tai’s research emphasis is on designing spaces that afford children the opportunity to engage in creative and active play, which is crucial to children’s mental, moral, emotional, and physical development. She is the author of the acclaimed books, The Magic of Children’s Gardens: Inspiring Through Creative Design [Temple University Press, 2017], Designing Outdoor Environments for Children [McGraw-Hill, 2006] and La Progettazione Degli Spazi All’aperto Per i Bambini [Sistemi Editorial, 2009].
