Town Branch Park
Town Branch Park
Lexington, KY
“We have the world to live in on the condition that we will take good care of it. And to take good care of it we have to know it. And to know it and to be willing to take care of it, we have to love it.” – Wendell Berry
Unknown Studio is proud to share our proposal for the invited competition for Town Branch Park, a new, signature park for Downtown Lexington. With humor, joy and a hyper-contextual design, this 9-acre park is a fresh take on how our shared common spaces bring together communities of all ages.
Our proposal for Town Branch Park is a homage to Central Kentucky in microcosm—a place of shady woodlands, crystalline waters trickling over limestone shelves, vernal pools that catch spring rainstorms and host the chirping of native frogs, birds and pollinators. There are promenades and terraces where little ones can play, build, climb, splash, and run free while their grownups enjoy some time in the shade and the sunshine. It is a site of long vistas, rolling lawns, and leisurely summer evenings. Last but not least, as the site of Lexington’s establishment on the banks of the Town Branch Creek, our proposal for Town Branch park creates a place for all Lexingtonians to gather, strengthen community ties, celebrate, and engage with the continued vibrancy of their City.
