Port Royal Residence
Port Royal Residence
Naples, FL
This project is a full landscape reinvention of a 3-acre tropical retreat overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. With Hurricane Ian making landfall in Naples during the midpoint of design, the project took on the reconstruction of the site’s coastal palm and broadleaf hammock. Designed with collaborative feedback from the family — international clients with a focus on fashion and the arts — the work focused on complementing the British-Caribbean Architecture, while intimately enclosing it within a spectacular tropical oasis.
Planting design was done with expertise from the horticulture team at Naples Botanical Garden and our partners at O’Donnell Landscaping.
Evoking a sense of tropical escape within a grove of palms, a new entry garden creates an immersive sense of welcome with a botanical composition of plants including brilliant burgundy bromeliads, pink cassia trees, travelers’ palms, and colorful and lush understory specimens.
On the beach side, the landscape introduces intimate spaces for family use and gathering centered around an expansive lawn and a linear swimming pool. With brilliant and textured ornamental planting, flowering ground covers, pockets of color, and a native edge of resilient plants, the site is designed to provide seasonal color and to resist storm impact into the future.
